Daniel Taub: The Influential Leadership that Changed the Fate of UK-Israeli Trade

Daniel Taub, an Israeli diplomat and the Ambassador of the country in the U.K. during the period 2011 to 2015, is known as an influencer in the UK-Israeli trade relations. The trade between both the countries has more than doubled during his four-year tenure.

During his resignation in 2015, the Israeli embassy issued a statement that the four years leadership of Ambassador Taub helped the UK-Israel relationships to reach greater heights, and it added significant tie ups and deep associations in business, academic, and cultural aspects of the both the countries apart from the doubled Israel-U.K. trade. It should be noted that the then British State Secretary for Innovation, Business, and Skills, Sajid Javid already communicated to the audience of the British Israeli Business Awards in June 2015 about the success of Taub in creating a “golden era” of trade between both the countries during his period.

Javid further explained that more than 300 Israeli business groups have setup their operations in the U.K. with an annual bilateral trade of more than $7 billion. The Israel-Britain Chamber of Commerce also appreciated the great feat during the period of Taub, however, it reported the total trade is more than $5.5 billion.

Interestingly, Daniel Taub was born in the U.K. in 1962, and he was picked up for the role of Israeli Ambassador in the U.K in 2011 considering his deep association with the country.

He even traveled to Northern Ireland along with Palestinian Ambassador, as a peace negotiator, to learn the transformation of societies there. Some years back the largest student union of Britain made an announcement to boycott Israel. Taub, in a 2012 interview with Jewish Chronicle, explained how he tackled the situation.

According to Daniel Taub, he was concerned with the outcome from some campuses, and he ensured that warnings are sent to the administrators to make sure that every point of view, including the ones supporting Israel, is expressed freely within the campuses.

Daniel Taub also visited Bradford in the year 2014 as George Galloway, the representative of Parliament from the city, declared it as “Israel-free zone.” He is currently serving as the director of planning and strategy at the Yad Hanadiv Foundation based in Jerusalem.

Taub completed his education from the University College of London, University College of Oxford, and Kennedy School of Government – Harvard University. He shifted to Israel in the year 1989 and started serving the Israel Defense Forces as both reserve officer and combat medic.

Since 1991, Daniel Taub started working with the Foreign Ministry of Israel and occupied many diplomatic and legal posts in the later years. He is also an international lawyer and columnist. Taub wrote many articles featuring the Middle East and Israel in leading newspapers like The Guardian, The Times, the Huffington Post, and the Daily Telegraph.
